Hooked by the giant crook: the everyday analogy for Ouchi Gari
Hooked by the giant crook

Mechanic

Tori steps in, hooks his leg around the inside of uke's leg, and reaps it out backward in the direction of uke's toes while driving the chest straight back. One support scooped from between the legs, uke sits down hard onto his back.

Analogy

A performer stands mid-bow when a giant shepherd's crook slides between their ankles, hooks one leg, and yanks it forward while a stagehand's palm nudges their chest. The leg shoots out and they plop straight down onto their back.

Why it maps

A hook pulls one support out from the inside while a push sends the body backward over the space where the leg used to be, the same two opposing forces as ouchi gari.
