The bull and the vanishing cape: the everyday analogy for Uki Otoshi
The bull and the vanishing cape

Mechanic

Tori never lifts or hooks anything. As uke steps forward, tori drops to one knee and steers with the hands alone, wheeling uke's committed momentum around a corner that leads straight into the floor.

Analogy

The bull charges the cape with everything it has, and the matador simply sweeps the cape down and aside. The bull's own speed carries it past the empty space, nose over hooves, tumbling into the sand.

Why it maps

Tori's hands are the cape: nothing pushes the bull over; its own committed charge is redirected downward around a pivot that isn't there anymore.
